perito moreno glacier.
the tour starts 6 am. it’s cloudy and cold. we start with a short boat trip along the glacier. at a distance of about 100 metres the size and the proportions are not really understandable. once a while ‘little’ blocks of ice fall into the lake with a loud thunder. unfortunately the colours of the ice are a bit boring with all the clouds.
later we walk to the hills at the side of the glacier. the guide drives me crazy: what’s the point of rushing while people want to take pictures during the walk if you give them 3 hours to stare at the glacier from another viewpoint afterwards? i hate guided tours. the weather gets better and with the sun the different colours of the ice come out. great stuff. spend the day walking up and down along the terrace next to the glacier and waiting for falling ice blocks.
in the afternoon transfer to el chalten: impressive empty landscape with endless hills. just the right thing to relax the eyes. i arrive at midnight and have a very late hamburger.
